Troy University Alumni Association launches membership campaign

The Troy University Alumni Association has launched its annual “Membership in May” campaign, an effort to keep more alumni engaged with University as a part of the Association, according to Alumni Affairs Director Faith Ward.

The Association currently serves alumni through 52 chapters in the United States and two international chapters located in China and Russia, Ward said.

“In 2012, Troy University celebrated 125 years of service to students in Alabama, the United States and around the world, and we look forward with anticipation to reaching even greater heights this year,” Ward said. “This is the perfect time for our alumni to celebrate our treasured past while looking forward to a bright future.”

The cost of an Alumni Association membership is: $25 per person annually or $500 for lifetime single membership and $750 lifetime couple membership. Payment plans are available for lifetime memberships.

2013-14 AUM cheerleading information announced

Auburn University at Montgomery cheerleading coach Amanda Brasington is seeking interested individuals for the 2013-14 Warhawks' Cheerleading squad. Tryouts will be held from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28 in the AUM Wellness Center.

In order to participate in the tryout, individuals must be a full-time student enrolled at AUM and must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Freshmen or transfer students must have been accepted to AUM by the first day of tryout clinics and must bring their letter of acceptance in order to tryout.

Required information to bring to the tryout include: a physical form, tryout agreement and waiver, a tryout information sheet, a photo copy of your insurance card and a $40 cash or check (made payable to AUM Cheerleading).

ASU's new master's program accepting applications

Looking to advance your computer and technology skills – skills that employers value? Apply for ASU’s College of Education’s Masters of Science in Applied Technology, the only applied technology program in the area. 

Prospective students have the option of completing the program online or in the classroom.

ASU’s Masters of Science in Applied Technology program is designed to bridge the technological gap and open pathways to jobs in such settings as education, health, private industry and government. 

Dr. Necoal Driver, chair of Instructional Support Programs, said the applied technology program is an innovative approach to addressing the technological needs within the workforce.

“It has made us a more global functioning community that enables us to be more mobile and instantaneous with our communication,” Driver said.

Graduates receive an M.S.

High School Math & Computing Olympiad - seven Montgomery school & lots more central Alabama

Today, Alabama’s brightest young minds and future innovators will take on mathematics and computing at Alabama State University’s annual High School Math & Computing Olympiad.

The competition will be held at several locations on ASU’s campus - complete listing below!

 

This year, more than 100 students and 50 teachers from 20 schools from Montgomery and Alabama’s Black Belt region will be on ASU campus. 

 

The Montgomery schools are: Brewbaker Technology Magnet School, Jefferson Davis High School, Loveless Academic Magnet Program (LAMP), The Montgomery Academy,  Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, Montgomery Technical Education Center, St. James High School, St. Jude Educational Institute - a complete listing of all schools is below!

NASP Alabama State Championship to be held in Montgomery tomorrow

NASP Alabama State Championship to be held in Montgomery tomorrow

The largest youth archery competition in Alabama, the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Alabama State Championship, will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl located at 220 Hall St., Montgomery, Ala., 36104.  Individual groups will begin shooting at 8:30, 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The media and public are invited.

This is the first time the NASP Alabama State Championship will be held in Montgomery.

Troy to host free conference for parents, teachers of gifted students in grades K-2

Troy University will host the Fifth Annual Gifted Education Conference for parents and teachers of high-ability K-2 students at the Dothan Campus on Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 – 3 p.m. in the Michelin Room in the Library/Technology Building.
 
This year’s theme is developing early interest in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
 
The free event is sponsored by the College of Education and is aimed at helping parents and teachers better meet the needs of high-ability students in kindergarten through second grade.
 
“Typically, students are not identified and served in gifted programs until third grade. Therefore, we want to provide parents and classroom teachers with techniques that can enrich the curriculum for K-2 students prior to enrollment in a gifted program,” said Dr.
